Applications will be due Friday, September 15th.

Dear Pre-medical Students,

There are a plethora of health and medical organizations available for undergraduate students attending Cornell University.  As you begin exploring these many unique organizations, we recommend that you consider rushing Phi Delta Epsilon International Medical Fraternity.  Phi Delta Epsilon, or PhiDE, is an international fraternity for premedical and medical students as well as physicians founded in 1904 at Cornell University Medical College when it was here in Ithaca, NY.  Our chapter of PhiDE, New York Lambda, was founded in September 2011. Since its founding, our fraters have strived to uphold the tenets of PhiDE: Philanthropy, deity and equity.  Our 90 active members embody this commitment by engaging in many service events, academic workshops, and career-oriented pursuits.  Due to their tenacity for upholding these values, our members have formed a tight-knit brotherhood of outstanding individuals who are determined to become physicians and leaders in both the realm of medicine and in their communities, whether it is at the local, state, national, or even international level.

Recruitment is during the first few weeks of both fall and spring semester; it is designed to give you the opportunity to meet chapter members and become acquainted with the premedical community here at Cornell. Through a wide variety of events, PhiDE will share the meaning of our brotherhood - all in an attempt to get to know you and for you to get to know us. Recruitment provides a setting where you can ask our members questions that you feel are pertinent, including those about finances, scholarship, activities, and time commitment.

Rush begins by attending one of the mandatory information sessions on either Wednesday, September 6th (GSH 132 4:30-5:30 pm), Thursday, September 7th (GSH G76 4:00-5:00 pm) or Monday, September 11th (GSH 132 4:30-5:30 pm). We will also be having a mandatory meet-and-greet event on Tuesday, September 12th from 11am to 4:30 pm in Williard Straight 411. On Wednesday, September 13th, our brothers will be hosting a philanthropy event so that new members can learn about our relationship with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and can work to support the pediatric patients at Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital in Syracuse, NY. Final applications will be due on Friday, September 15th.

Please return to this site and/or our Facebook page for updates.

Our organization is open to a variety of Cornell students and our membership is reflective of Cornell's diversity. An applicant is eligible to rush if they are a freshman, sophomore, or first semester junior. During the spring recruitment cycles, juniors are not eligible to rush. Unfortunately, we do not accept students in their senior year.

In addition, all applicants must be pre-medical students; in other words, each applicant must share the eventual goal of entering an allopathic or osteopathic medical school after graduation. Pre-veterinary, -dental, and -health students are encouraged to join other organizations on campus.

We strongly encourage you to come to all of these events to meet our brothers and hear first-hand the value of our fraternity. Event attendance is taken into consideration in the application process. If you cannot attend an event, please email phidecornell@gmail.com ahead of time to explain your absence and to ask questions about information you might be missing. All recruitment details are clearly explained on the application document below.

Lastly, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please email me at vprphidecornell@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Alec Sun
